Speaking and Listening: God’s Heart for Care Provision

January 17, 2021

Written by Emma Rooker

“To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”

John 10:3-4

There are many questions that have been raised in the past year, but among those questions there is one that has particularly stuck out to me in the wake of 2020, and upon entering the new year:
Who do I listen to?

I was advised a few years ago to distinguish the difference between the voices and the voters in my life, and it has proven to be one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. Let me explain. On any given day, and at any given moment, each of us are within earshot of thousands of different voices, whether they come from actual people in our lives, or from our screens. Social media, for example, serves as a platform for these voices, streaming from different people with different opinions and differing perspectives. Not all of these voices are bad, and it’s important that constructive conversations and dialogue finds a place in our lives. However, the sheer amount of opinions and voices that I’m often met with can be rather deafening, are fueled by fear, or distract me from staying the course, and away from what is right and true. The voters on the other hand? These are the handpicked people in my life that are closest to me, the ones who know the broken and beautiful parts of my history, and understand what makes me, me. Understanding the difference between these two groups is crucial, because too often I conflate them and get them confused. Too easily, I am distracted by the voices that are a bit too loud on my social media, and I forget to talk to a loved one about the things I’m going through. I truly believe that God intended us to be surrounded by a close group of people who know and love us, and who point us back to Him and His still, small voice. All too often, I forget to listen to His voice altogether, even though it’s Him who has ultimate authority and ‘voting’ privileges in my life.

When it comes to home care, end of life care, or any type of care provision for that matter, we know there are a multitude of voices out there telling you what’s best; for you, for your loved one, and for the future. At EPAGA Home Care, we are dedicated to being a voice of compassion, reason, and honesty in the lives of you and your families as you navigate hard and unknown seasons. With your trust, it’s our great honor and joy to step into the ‘voters’ circle of your life when needed, and when making important decisions for your loved one. We have elderly family members ourselves, and having been faced with the same difficult decisions in the past, we understand the fears and implications involved with seeking out a care provider. Not only are we well-versed in the world of home care and seeking solutions for every situation, we’re also deeply committed to being good listeners. By careful observation and respectful evaluation of every circumstance, we are well-equipped to speak into any situation and assist you and your family make the right decisions, together, about the future. As members of the body of Christ, we have no doubt that we’ve been entrusted with the gift of heartfelt care and compassion, and seek to serve you and your family in the most excellent way.

If you’d like a listening ear, and a voice that is guided by truth and compassion regarding an important decision, you can schedule a free consultation here. Above all, we’re praying that you are largely aware of the voice of our Heavenly Father this week, and of His love for you.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this:

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak...

James 1:19
