EPAGA Up Close: Kevin Lake

In this three part series, we’ll be highlighting our three founding team members, Inga, Kevin and Julie, who have been there from the very beginning of EPAGA’s story. If you happen to share a personal connection with them, please leave a comment below to give them the love and recognition they deserve!

Left to right: Bailey (daughter), Inga (wife and CFO of EPAGA Home Care), Kevin, and Samantha (daughter and EPAGA Home Care General Manager).

Kevin currently holds the title of President of EPAGA Home Care, in addition to working in billing and receiving for the company. While he officially came onto the staff three years ago, he has undoubtedly been a constant source of support and encouragement from the very beginning of the company’s founding in 2007.

Kevin was a motorcycle mechanic for over twenty years prior to EPAGA, and owned his own business for a number of years. The narrative of his life and work ethic is no doubt reflected in the current success of the EPAGA model. While the idea of serving in such an important role at the company may have never initially been on the horizon for Kevin, he wouldn’t have it any other way. He finds satisfaction in a space that he couldn’t have dreamt up on his own, and the value and significance in his work means more to him than words can say.

During our conversation, I asked him how he felt God viewed the world of home care. He shared that he has a firm belief in the faithfulness of God, and the different paths He places us on. Kevin has found himself in a handful of unexpected places, but trusts that God is working His purpose through it all; whether or not he understands what He’s doing in the moment. This has been a common thread throughout Kevin’s lifetime, the process of learning to trust God in the unknown, the new, and the unexpected.

In a similar manner, he reflected on the agricultural experience that he’s invested in because of his daughter Bailey, and her endeavors in the stock show world. Bailey raises and shows sheep—a world that Kevin had little knowledge of beforehand, yet nonetheless has found passion and dedication for. It’s often during lambing season each year when he finds himself looking back and appreciating where he finds himself today. He recognizes that this is often the case when surrendering your life to faith; the chance to be open to something completely new and different, often better than any one of us could ever imagine it to be.

It’s no surprise that he parallels this understanding with his role at EPAGA, as they work to meet their greatest challenges and the greatest needs of their community. His greatest concern is the increasing shortage of staff personnel, and the reality that the amount of people in need far outnumbers those who are professional caretakers. In addition, he desires to dissolve the misconceptions surrounding home care, as many are unaware that it exists in the first place.

Yet the best part about his job is knowing that EPAGA is working to create sustainable solutions, and striving to do it with excellence. Kevin is confident in the straightforward approach that EPAGA takes as a care provider. He also expressed his gratitude for the chance to accomplish meaningful work in the office, alongside people that care deeply about one another and about their mission within home care. His prayer for EPAGA going forward is that there would be an increase in those who are eager to come alongside the company; individuals who are equipped with a heart for service.

Kevin’s drive and dedication to his work is sincere and wholehearted, and it’s his steadfast support behind the scenes that ensures the best care for EPAGA’s clientele. When your family is in need of a care provider in your home, Kevin is working tirelessly to ensure that the needs of you and your family members are met in full. He considers himself EPAGA’s biggest cheerleader, fueled by the purpose of helping people in the best possible way. Living this life takes “a big faith,” as Kevin says, and that’s the heart behind EPAGA: to dream about bigger and better solutions to real life needs, ensuring the well-being of the family of God.
